Raising money for the Wales Refugee Council, featuring Daniel LaFrombe of Peasant's King, the 02Five Choir and Arius School of Performing Arts.
All proceeds from this track go to the Wales Refugee Council. With the terrible situation being faced by many in Syria and elsewhere, we wanted to do something to show support and hopefully raise some money to support people in desperate who are arriving in Wales.
Happy, sing-along summer music that will put a smile on your face.
All the proceeds from the sale of this single go to the Macular Disease Society (UK).
I wrote this song as a birthday present for Bernadette, a lovely hair-stylist friend of mine who cuts my hair. Bernie is still in her thirties but has just had a serious operation for macular degeneration, and her experience brought to light the difficulties many people endure with this disease.
It's a happy, summery song that I hope will bring a smile to your face as well as raise a decent amount of money for a great charity. Enjoy!
The album is in three 'movements' and draws on my experiences at three sacred places: Mt Shasta, in Northern California, Klamath Lake, in Oregon, and Mt Lassen near Redding, California. The music is intended for meditation, relaxation and contemplation.
This album moves ealisly between country based rock to sensitive ballads.
I first released this album in 2006 for sale in the UK, to raise money for cancer research after being diagnosed with kidney cancer. I wasn’t really thinking about putting it on CD Baby, but 'popular demand' is a persuasive thing. It’s very different to my latest album 'Fat Tuesday’s Gonna be Sweet', in that there’s much more of a Country feel to this project, and it is intentionally less ‘commercial’ as well as a little 'rough around the edges'.
The album is a collection of contemporary Country influenced songs I wrote over quite a long period of time. Most are quite personal: ‘Palo Cedro’ is a town in California where I worked briefly back in 1990 before moving back to the UK; ‘Beverley’ is about a friend and colleague who lost her life in a car accident, and ‘So Dorky I’m Cool’ was written for my niece’s graduation.
The last song, ‘Just as Long as I’m With You’ was written for my wife, not long after my cancer diagnosis in 2005, as is ‘You Really Know How to Love’.
Anyway, I’ve had a lot of requests to make it available here, so I’ve re-mastered it, added a couple of tracks (I Dream & Goodbye) and given it a new cover. If you bought Fat Tuesday, this might not be your ‘cup of tea’, but have a listen to the tracks anyway; you never know!
Best wishes,
Stephen J Preston.
Tua’r Wlad is a beautiful mix of Welsh traditional folk songs and hymns, with smooth jazz and the pure soprano voice of Siriol Burford.
Tua’r Wlad is a unique blend of traditional Welsh folk songs and hymns, with a ‘late night jazz’ feel, and the beautiful voice of Siriol Burford. In the Welsh language, Tua’r Wlad means literally ‘toward the country’. It has echoes of longing for the land of Wales, as well as a sense of looking toward Heaven. It has its roots firmly in the Celtic musical tradition, but also weaves a tapestry of classical and jazz influences into a deeply emotional and sensitive performance.
The songs have been arranged and produced by Stephen J Preston (www.cdbaby.com/stephenjpreston), who is joined by Rob Jones on drums, and Owen Lloyd-Evans (Lleuwen Steffan/Acoustique) on double bass.
This is an album for quiet nights in, and will transport you to the hills and valleys of Wales.
We recommend this CD be accompanied by a good red wine, or glass of best Welsh whiskey. Enjoy
Piano-based feel good music, somewhere between ELO and Ben Folds.
An acoustic, piano-based collection of songs, best suited to warm summer days or when you just want something to put a smile on your face, with a couple of ballads, just to keep it honest.
For this project I’ve drawn on some of my early influences; bands like ELO & Supertramp, and artists like Keith Green, as well as newer artists like the fabulous Ben Folds.
Please have a listen, and if you like the songs, well, you know where the ‘buy’ button is! :)
Notes:
Guitar: Gerwyn Howley (formally Kooga, 20/20 Vision)
Bass: Owen Lloyd-Evans (Lleuwen Steffan, Huw Warren, and loads of others I can't remember)
All the rest is me - even the really, really high notes.
